Just names for the spaces you already use.

Your names stay yours.

Space Ranger stores your names and colors on your Mac. Accessibility access lets it read Mission Control’s thumbnail titles and positions; it does not read your window contents. The only network activity is license checks with Polar. No account is needed to name a Space.

GOOD QUESTIONS

What to know
before liftoff.

Space Ranger keeps the setup small and the answers plain.

Space Ranger thinking through a question.
What does Space Ranger actually do?

It lets you give your macOS Spaces names and colors, shows the active Space name in the menu bar, and displays your names over the Mission Control thumbnails. Choose Chip or Masking tape labels and one of four menu bar icon appearances: System, Color, White, or Dark.

Does this rename macOS’s built-in “Desktop 1” labels?

Space Ranger displays your names as overlays on the Mission Control thumbnails; it does not rename the built-in desktop titles.

Why does it ask for Accessibility access?

Space Ranger uses macOS Accessibility to read the thumbnail labels and positions in Mission Control, then places its labels over them. It does not inspect the content of your windows. You can leave access off; menu bar names remain available, while Mission Control labels need that permission.

Does Space Ranger read my window contents?

No. Space Ranger reads the titles and positions of the desktop thumbnails in Mission Control. It does not read the contents of your windows.

What happens if I reorder, add, or remove a Space?

Space Ranger follows the Space order shown in Mission Control and updates the labels to match.

Will it work with multiple displays and full-screen apps?

Space Ranger is designed for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. Mission Control can lay out thumbnails differently across display setups; we are still validating multi-display behavior.

What happens when the 14-day trial ends?

Every download is the same full app. It includes a 14-day full-featured trial. After that, it keeps working in free mode: the first two Spaces in Mission Control order keep their names, and the others show “Space Ranger.” Activate a license to unlock the rest; no separate paid download is needed.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed to download or name Spaces. A license key is the only thing you need to activate a purchase.

How many Macs can I use it on?

One license can be active on up to 3 Macs.

What if I buy a new Mac?

Deactivate this Mac in Settings → License or in the Polar customer portal, then activate your key on the new Mac.

Can I get a refund?

You can request a refund within 30 days of purchase. See our refund policy.

What does it cost?

$7.99 launch price (regular $9.99), one-time. Purchasing opens soon.

What macOS versions does it need?

Space Ranger requires macOS 15 or later and is intended for Apple silicon Macs.

Is it safe to download?

We’ll publish the download when the release build is ready. Apple notarization status will be stated here once a released version is available.

Does Space Ranger upload my names or track my activity?

Your names and colors stay on your Mac. The only network activity is license checks with Polar: the license key, activation ID, app version, and a label with your Mac model and macOS version. No names, window titles, analytics, or usage tracking are sent. Diagnostic logs stay on your Mac and are never sent automatically.
